Quiet Barrier® MD Soundproofing Composite

The Quiet Barrier® MD Soundproofing Composite is considered our medium-thickness noise control option. Your orders arrive with a 1/8 in., 1 lb. soundproofing membrane barrier to stop loud sounds from moving through the material. The sound-blocking internal membrane paired with 1 inch of polyurethane foam helps installations combat slap-back and vibrations coming from machines in industrial settings. Exterior foam works to separate your installations from the mounting surface for excellent sound dampening results.

Soundproof Cow’s soundproofing composites are engineered for industrial applications, but DIY fans can also benefit from placing these materials in garages, bedrooms, recording studios and anywhere echoes create a disturbance. The Quiet Barrier® Soundproofing Composite features a user-friendly installation process for convenience — just move to the surface you want to treat, utilize one of our construction adhesives to fasten the material and apply Quiet Barrier® Tape to the seams. This product has been tested for a UL94 HF-1 flammability rating.

Quiet Barrier® MD Soundproofing Composite is our medium thickness noise control composite, combining the powerful noise control material contained in our soundproof barrier membrane with 1 inch of sound-controlling polyurethane foam.

These two materials work in concert to maximize your noise control benefit, with the foam serving as a sound dampener and decoupler, isolating the barrier from vibrations by separating it from the mounting surface, and the barrier itself providing mass and the bulk of the sound blocking. Together they create a tough composite that little sound can penetrate.

A Variety of Uses for Our Easy-to-Install Soundproofing Composite

The Quiet Barrier® MD Soundproofing Composite is affordable and effective enough for you to use it in a wide range of commercial and residential applications. You can:

  • Soundproof a child’s room if that child is easily prone to distraction
  • Soundproof your garage so it can serve as a recording studio or alternate workspace
  • Preserve the privacy and integrity of conference rooms
  • Prevent workers in adjoining offices or cubicles from losing focus due to nearby phone calls or chatter taking place around the office

This soundproofing membrane composite is effective in warehouses, vehicles and numerous other industrial applications as well.

The Quiet Barrier® MD is thin and flexible, so you can install it almost anywhere. Installation is quick and easy, and you will start to see the benefits right away. If excessive sound is a problem in your home or workplace, the Quiet Barrier® can provide an excellent solution.

Triple soundproofing function — The mass of Quiet Barrier® blocks sound while its flexible nature dampens sound energy. The Acoustic foam acts as a decoupler, structurally isolating the heavy barrier layer from the construction assembly, ultimately increasing the sound blocking performance.

Low Profile — Quiet Barrier® soundproofing composites range in thickness from 9/16 inch to 1 ¼ inch, saving valuable square footage.

Variety — Quiet Barrier® soundproofing composites are available in a variety of weights and thicknesses. Quiet Barrier® soundproofing composites are available with an optional “peel and stick” pressure-sensitive adhesive (PSA).

In-stock — We stock all advertised sizes and configurations of Quiet Barrier® soundproofing composites. Most products are shipped the same day they are ordered and arrive at your project in three business days.

Proven History — Over 1 Million square feet of Quiet Barrier® soundproofing composites are installed in projects nationwide.

Flammability — Quiet Barrier® Soundproofing Composites contain polyurethane foam that has a flammability rating of UL94 HF-1. Before choosing this product, be sure the flammability rating passes your local building code for exposed materials.

Which Quiet Barrier® Soundproofing Composite is right for me?

Quiet Barrier® Soundproofing Composites can be added to a variety of existing wall constructions to improve the sound blocking performance of the structure. Choose the right Quiet Barrier® Soundproofing Composite based on the type of noise you are trying to prevent from entering or leaving the space. As a rule, the thicker and heavier the Quiet Barrier® Composite, the better it will be at reducing sound transfer. The thinner Quiet Barrier® Composite products perform well when trying to deter common noises with average decibel levels. The thicker Quiet Barrier® Composite products perform well when trying to deter common noises with high decibel levels. In essence, the louder the sound you are trying to stop, the thicker the product needs to be. First determine how much sound you need to stop, and then choose the appropriate product.

How Quiet Barrier® Soundproofing Composites work

In essence, Quiet Barrier® Soundproofing Composite products block the transmission of noise from one area to the next. The “noise source” hits the barrier and is reflected back into the room or space of origin. See figure 1. Typically, the noise is not muffled or absorbed in any way, which means that the decibel level within the source room remains the same or is increased. The difference between the source noise and the transmitted noise is the sound transmission loss.

Polyurethane Foam Warning

All Polyurethane Foams, including Combustion Modified Foams, will burn. Do not expose to any flame source. Once ignited, they can produce rapid flame spread, intense heat, dense smoke and toxic gases causing death. Warnings should be given to your employees and or customers. Test data does not necessarily reflect a foams performance under actual fire conditions. Before purchasing any foam, be sure to check with your local code officials to confirm the required flammability rating of exposed materials for your area.

I have emailed a lot of different manufactures and I have to say your customer service is head and shoulders above all of them. I emailed your company at about 9pm my time and when I woke up the next morning you had already answered my question and then the follow up was a few hours later. I am impressed. Thanks a lot for the quick turn around!

– E. Gustafson, NV

I just wanted to send a quick thank you for your rapid response and helpfulness. I very much appreciated it. You have been responsive in every way all through the process. It has been a pleasure doing business with you and your company.

– T. Alexander, CA

I just wanted to let you know that in the end, sealing the air spaces on this door worked just fine and took care of the problem.

I really appreciate you taking so much time to share your expertise with me, and in particular recommending I try the simpler solution before investing in more expensive noise barriers. That is a big credit to you and your business.

– Mike
